Run Windows-based Programs on a Mac
Darwine was a port of the Wine libraries to Darwin and Mac OS X (the Wine project provides source code for OS X but not binary builds). The Darwine project intended to port and develop Wine as well as other supporting tools that would allow Darwin and Mac OS X users to run Windows applications and to provide a Win32 API compatibility at application source code level.
- At one point, I was able to download and install Darwin OS from the Apple open-source website. I was able to download Darwin 8.0.1, which is the base for 10.4 (Mac OS X Tiger). If I remember correctly, it was around the time of Leopard (10.5).
- 'Intel x86' - Applied patches to run Wine on Mac OS X computers with Intel x86 compatible processors. Darwine has merged Wine specific patches back into the WineHQ codebase. The Darwine project compiles and bundles this code into an OS X specific distribution package. Some Mac specific code is added to provide system integration.
