Hi again, thanks for the links above, not sure what is going on but now, even on the command line I don't see it attached at all. The flash drive does work and I have copied files onto from the PC and still not recognized at all but there is a LED indicator to let me know that it is there and on. When I reattach the USB hub and another thumb drive both are detected and can be read.

When I reattach the USB hub and another thumb drive both are detected and can be read. The USB ports work for other items, and the drive is not seen by the system at all. Select your USB flash drive. When prompted to select a save location, you'll need to click your flash drive's name in the left-hand menu and then click Save. Doing so will cause the file to download directly onto your flash drive. On a Mac, you may click Choose instead of Save. Gone are the days when you could simply connect your favourite keyboard or external drive straight onto your MacBook Pro. Apple has even gone as far as removing the usual USB 3.0 hubs from the MacBook Pro altogether. But, most devices out there still run on USB 3.0. So, how do you connect them.

The USB ports work for other items, and the drive is not seen by the system at all. here is what I find in the command line query,

mynetwork:~ Darryl$ diskutil list

/dev/disk0 (internal, physical):

Also now when I use the Disk Utility I only see the internal drive and any other USB Drives I attach or detach. I've restarted the pro and still it does get recognized, My concern is, it works everywhere else, what if I reformatted the unit to Apple HFS or redid it in FAT32 would it kill the disk and whatever program is on it to control the lightening connector.

I'll keep looking around the chatrooms and other places for some other takes on this but if you know an engineer or programmer that likes a challenge I've got lots. Thanks again for any suggestions.
